Cross-Country Men Second, Women Sixth At NCC Championships

All-American Jason Probasco finishes second; Aimee Dunlop finishes 11th.

FARGO, N.D. - The University of South Dakota men's cross-country team, led by the second place finish of all-American Jason Probasco, took second place at the North Central Conference Cross-Country Championships on Saturday at the Edgewood Golf Course in Fargo, N.D. The Coyotes women's team finished sixth.

Probasco, who was second a year ago, covered the 8K course in 25:08.37, finishing behind only Minnesota State, Mankato's Marty Rosendahl, who had a time of 24:59.89. South Dakota State won the meet with 55 points while South Dakota was second with 65. Minnesota State, Mankato finished third with 76 points in the men's competition.

The Coyotes men's team placed seven runners in the top 30. Sophomore Adam Lindahl was 11th (25:42.12), sophomore Jacob Christensen, 13th (25:59.03), sophomore Andy Nelson, 19th (26:18.69), junior Ed Whetham, 20th (26.19.22), senior Dave Farnsworth, 23rd (26:36.97) and senior Andrew Neugebauer, 28th (26:45.61). Other Coyotes finishers included sophomore Dave Johansson, 41st (27:15.21), freshman Carl Gerken, 42nd (27:20.82), freshman Adam Riddle, 51st (27:46.70) and freshman Harvey Coble, 60th (28:30.49).

Northern Colorado, led by the first-place finish of Katie Hostetler (21:59.58), won their first ever NCC women's championship with a total of 44 points and North Dakota was second with 50. South Dakota finished sixth with 139 points. The Coyotes were led by junior Aimee Dunlop, who finished 11th (22:59.32). Freshman Jennie Buller finished 22nd (23:29.89). Other South Dakota runners included: senior Patricia Goertz, 33rd (24:11.49), freshman Molly Meng, 36th (24:16.98), senior Alison Luedke (24:19.65) and freshman Brianna Schenk, 44th (24:38.39).

Men's team points: SDSU, 55, South Dakota, 65, Minnesota State, Mankato, 76, NDSU, 83, Augustana, 84, North Dakota, 151, St. Cloud State, 225, and Morningside, incomplete.

Women's team points: Northern Colorado, 44, North Dakota, 50, SDSU, 87, Nebraska-Omaha, 126, NDSU, 134, South Dakota, 139, Augustana, 151, Minnesota State, Mankato, 166, Morningside, 304, St. Cloud State, 341.
