USD's Wetering and Lindner Qualify for NCAA Division II Cross Country Nationals

WAYNE, NEB. -- Tyler Wetering and Amy Lindner of the South Dakota Men’s and Women’s Cross Country squads qualified for nationals as individuals with strong performances at the North Central Region Cross Country Meet in Wayne, Neb., on Saturday.
The South Dakota men's team finished 11th with 321 points but did not qualify for the nationals. Wetering, who earned All-American honors a year ago at nationals, qualified as an individual for the second straight year. The USD women's team was ninth with 281 points. Lindner, a senior from Sioux Falls, S.D., qualified for D-II nationals for the first time as she covered the 6,000 meter course in 22:29.50 for 14th place.
The top five men's teams and the top six women's teams go to nationals.
Wetering, a senior from Sioux Falls, S.D., finished the 10,000 meter course in 15th place with a clocking of 31:54.3. Matt Yaggie (sophomore, Mission Hill, S.D.) was 57th in 33:47.40. The rest of the Coyote squad and their respective placing included Rob Gregoire (freshman, Wakonda, S.D.), was 75th, 34:17.30; Sean Fitzsimmons (freshman, Yankton, S.D.), 83rd, 34:48.70; Josh Blue (junior, Council Bluffs, Iowa), 9lst, 35:10.70; Ben Schlosser (freshman, Elkhorn, Neb.), 99th, 35:41.75 and John Coleman (senior, Littleton, Colo.), 103rd, 36:08.50.
Adams State won the men's team competition and qualified for nationals with Western State, second; Colorado Mines, third, Minnesota State, fourth; and Augustana, fifth. Kim Hogarth of Western State was the men's titlist with a clocking of 30:33 in the 10K race.

Other Coyote women’s team results included Lexi Dunlop (sophomore, Woodbine, Iowa), 38th, 23:21.35; Jessica Lundgren (sophomore, Truman, Minn.), 44th, 23:32.10; Amy Steckelberg (senior, Yankton, S.D.), 84th, 24:46.90; Carrie Brooks, 101st, 25:22.80; Heather Kuhlmann (redshirt freshman Nebraska City, Neb.), 104th, 25:27.30; and Tianna Hurtado (freshman, Loveland, Colo.), 136th, 27:30.2.
The women's teams qualifying for nationals includes regional team champion Western State as well as Adams State, second; Colorado Springs, third; Augustana, fourth; North Dakota, fifth; Fort Lewis, sixth. The women's titlist was Esther Komen, a sophomore from Western State, in 20:58.5.
