Coyotes Fall To Nationally-Ranked Augustana In Volleyball

USD comes up empty in 16-14, 15-6, 15-8 loss to Vikings.

VERMILLION, S.D. - The No. 2 nationally-ranked Augustana College women's volleyball team defeated the University of South Dakota 3-0 (16-14, 15-6, 15-8) in North Central Conference play in the DakotaDome. USD fell to 10-24 and 2-15 in the NCC while Augustana improved to 25-3 and 14-3 in the NCC.

The Coyotes made an early run at the Vikings, jumping to a 14-9 first game lead but could not finish off the game as Augustana rallied for a 16-14 win. Then the Vikings controlled the final two games by scores of 15-6 and 15-8.

For the Coyotes, sophomore Amber Abrams had 11 kills on 37 attacks and 12 defensive digs. Freshman Sarah Vollertsen had seven kills on 23 attacks. Freshman Becky Olson had seven kills on 31 attacks and four block assists. Sophomore Leslie Fusinato led the Coyotes with 19 defensive digs and two service aces. Freshman Angela Golesh had 29 set assists and 15 defensive digs. Overall USD had 34 kills on 136 attacks with 70 defensive digs and seven total team blocks.

All-American Lindsay Voss, who had 15 kills on 42 attacks and nine defensive digs, led Augustana. Lori Fossum had 10 kills on 23 attacks and Katy Peterson led the Vikings with 14 defensive digs. Kari Peterson had 40 set assists. The Vikings had 45 kills on 142 attacks with 50 defensive digs and seven total team blocks.
