GRAND FORKS, N.D. - In a highly competitive match, the University of North Dakota turned back the University of South Dakota, 3-1 (15-13, 4-15, 15-8, 15-5) in North Central Conference women's volleyball Saturday night before 165 in attendance at the Hyslop Sports Center.

USD dropped to 10-22 overall and 2-13 in the NCC while UND improved to 14-16 overall and 3-11 in the NCC.

For the Coyotes, freshman Becky Olson had 13 kills on 22 attacks (.455 percentage) and eight defensive digs. Sophomore Amber Abrams had 10 kills on 29 attacks (.207 percentage) and two block assists while junior Nicole Johnson had 10 kills on 21 attacks (.333 percentage) with three solo block and two block assists. Freshman Sarah Vollertsen had eight kills on 15 attacks (.400 percentage) with nine defensive digs, three solo blocks and three block assists. Freshman Angela Golesh led USD with 43 set assists and sophomore Leslie Fusinato led the Coyotes with 11 defensive digs.

Overall, South Dakota had 51 attacks on 124 attacks (.274 percentage) with 52 defensive digs, six aces and 12 team blocks.

Emily Tuve led UND with 14 kills on 36 attacks while Kristal Guyda had 13 kills on 32 attacks. Josie Finks had 12 kills. Holly Welter had 48 set assists and a game-high 13 defensive digs. As a team, the Fighting Sioux had 60 kills on 150 attacks with 50 defensive digs and seven team blocks.
