The Morningside College women's volleyball team defeated South Dakota 3-0 (15-3, 15-6, 18-16) in North Central Conference play Tuesday at Allee Gym in Sioux City, Iowa. South Dakota fell to 10-20 and 2-11 in the NCC while Morningside improved to 13-12 and 5-8 in the NCC.
Freshman Sarah Vollertsen had 10 kills on 27 attacks along with one solo block and two block assists to lead South Dakota. Also for the Coyotes, sophomore Amber Abrams had nine kills on 23 attacks and five defensive digs while freshman Becky Olson had six kills on 18 attacks and a team-high seven defensive digs. South Dakota had 31 set assists from Angela Golesh. South Dakota had 39 kills on 115 attacks for a .148 hitting percentage. Overall, the Coyotes had 35 defensive digs, five team blocks and three service aces.
Morningside hit .336 on 51 kills out of 110 attacks, 44 defensive digs, six service aces, and three team blocks. The Mustangs received 16 kills on 33 attacks from Monica Caspar while Tracie McCord had 10 kills on 15 attacks for a .667 hitting percentage and also had 11 defensive digs. Jennifer Gruber had 10 kills on 18 attacks for a .500 hitting percentage. Brenna Larsen had 40 set assists for the Mustangs.
