The #3 ranked Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks women's volleyball team defeated South Dakota 3-0 (15-3, 16-14, 15-0) in North Central Conference play Friday night before 150 people in the DakotaDome.
South Dakota fell to 10-18 and 2-9 in the NCC while UNO improved to 21-1 and 9-1 in the NCC. Nebraska-Omaha hit .367 with 13 kills on 30 attacks as they controlled game one, 15-3. In a back and forth second game, South Dakota fought back from a 14-10 deficit to tie but UNO prevailed. The Mavericks had seven kills on 18 attacks in game three to win the match. UNO was led by Nikki Mastny who had 10 kills on 24 attacks and 10 defensive digs while Tracy Ankeny had eight kills on 31 attacks and two service aces. Bethany Tigert had 21 set assists for UNO.
Sophomore Amber Abrams led the Coyotes with seven kills on 27 attacks and freshman Becky Olson had seven kills on 25 attacks. Freshman Angela Golesh had 16 set assists for the Coyotes.
Overall, South Dakota had 19 kills on 95 attacks, 16 set assists and 28 defensive digs. The Coyotes had four total team blocks.
The Mavericks had 33 kills on 91 attacks for a .231 hitting percentage and recorded 43 defensive digs.
