Sept. 22, 2000

VERMILLION, S.D. - The University of South Dakota women's volleyball team lost its sixth straight match in a five-game loss, 3-2, to Briar Cliff College in a nonconference matchup Wednesday night in the DakotaDome. In all three of their home matches this season, the Coyotes (6-10) and their opponent have gone to five games, and, for the second time in a row, the Coyotes dropped the rally-point game and the match.

After handily winning game one, 15-4, the Coyotes were unable to develop any offensive consistency, and, with some USD defensive lapses, Briar Cliff (14-1) won the next two games 15-11 and 15-5. In the fourth game, the Coyotes won a back-and-forth affair 15-11 before the Chargers took control in game five.

The Coyotes were led by freshman Sarah Vollertsen, who had 15 kills on 45 attacks, while freshman Becky Olson also contributed 10 kills on 26 attacks as well as 22 defensive digs. Vollertsen also had five block assists while Olson had four. Both sophomore Katie Wancho and freshman Angela Golesh had 18 set assists. Overall, South Dakota had 45 kills on 159 attacks for a measly .126 hitting percentage. The Coyotes had 41 set assists and 83 defensive digs.

The Coyotes host North Dakota on Friday night in the Vermillion High School gymnasium with a 7:30 PM start time. The Coyotes also host North Dakota State on Saturday at 7:30 PM in the DakotaDome.
