The University of South Dakota Coyotes dropped a second-round match to the University of Nebraska-Kearney on Friday night by scores of 15-5, 15-3, 15-3 at UNK's tournament in Kearney, Neb.
The loss moved the Coyotes to 1-1 on the season. Sophomores Amber Abrams of Rapid City, S.D., who had 10 kills and Becky Olson of Norfolk, Neb., who had eight kills, led the Coyotes. USD managed 26 kills and only had a .136 hitting percentage.
Earlier on Friday, USD defeated Tarleton State 15-13, 15-13, 15-12 in a first-round match. Sophomores Sarah Vollertson of Palmyra, Neb., Abrams and Olson had 10 kills a piece. Katie Wancho of Reddick, Ill. had 36 assists and Olson had 18 digs. The Coyotes had a total of 41 kills, seven serving aces and 55 digs.
The Coyotes play the University of Findlay and Chadron State College Saturday as the tournament wraps up. USD returns home for a match against Wayne State College on August 30 in the DakotaDome. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
