The University of South Dakota soccer team (4-9, 1-5) fell to North Dakota State University, 3-1, in North Central Conference action on a sunny Sunday afternoon at the soccer field just north of the DakotaDome.
NDSU (8-5, 4-1) jumped to a 2-1 first period lead and then added a second period goal to win the NCC matchup. Amy Masterson of NDSU scored at 7:57 off an assist from Carrie Fontana to give the Bison a 1-0 lead. Fontana scored at 20:22 on assists from Lisa Leach and Renee Hawkins as NDSU jumped ahead 2-0.
South Dakota cut the lead in half at 27:27 on a goal by junior Erin Torres off a throw-in assist from sophomore Jaime Strong. The Bison added their final score at 65:30 of the game when Fontana knocked in a rebound shot to score her second goal.
North Dakota State outshot South Dakota 23-8 and had an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks. North Dakota State had 15 fouls and South Dakota had four. South Dakota freshman goalkeeper Esther Regalado had a solid game, recording 11 saves. The Bison's goalkeeper, Kelly Tierney, had three saves.
