The University of South Dakota soccer team (4-6, 1-2) fell to Nebraska-Omaha, 8-1, in a North Central Conference game before 400 people on Friday, Sept. 29.
Tai Zuckweiler, who had two goals and two assists, led Nebraska-Omaha (8-3, 2-1) to their second conference win. The Mavericks took a 5-0 lead after the first period as Dani Plumb (13:30), Katie Hobbs (23:52), Tai Zuckweiler (30:06, 41:10), and Kelly O'Brien (36:00) scored
goals. Early in the second period, Nebraska-Omaha scored again on a goal by Brandy McSorley (46:28) before the Coyotes answered with a score by sophomore Lindsey Sturm (47:03) off an assist from freshman Stefanie Lierz. The Mavericks also had second period goals by Melanie Jensen (62:29) and Akeisha Varnado (70:45).
The Mavericks outshot South Dakota 31-5 and led in corner kicks, 8-1. Coyote freshman goalkeeper Esther Regalado had 11 saves in 90 minutes of work. Nebraska-Omaha goalkeeper Michelle Villanueva had to make only two saves.
USD will try to get back in the win column Sunday at noon against Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colo.
