The University of South Dakota soccer team won its second in a row by scoring a goal with 10 minutes to play as the Coyotes defeated Northwestern College, 2-1.
South Dakota (4-5) won the nonconference matchup when sophomore Janel Johnson scored at 80:16 off an assist from sophomore Jaime Strong, who had assists on both goals by the Coyotes. The Coyotes opened the scoring at 31:36 of the first period on a goal by freshman Jennifer Wieland. Northwestern (6-3) scored at 66:94 on a goal by Nancy TerHorst off an assist from Jennifer McCloud to tie the match and set up Johnson's winning blast.
The Coyotes outshot Northwestern 27-15 and had a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks. Freshman goalkeeper Esther Regalado had six saves. Northwestern College goalie Amber Kading had 16 saves.
USD will travel to Nebraska-Omaha on Friday, Sept. 29 and have a match at Northern Colorado on Sunday, Oct. 1.
