1999 Recruiting Class

Nov. 10, 1999

VERMILLION, SD - South Dakota head women's basketball coach Chad Lavin announced today that Sioux Falls Roosevelt standouts Krista Orsack (5-10) and Katie Pulford (6-2) have signed national letters of intent to enroll at USD and play for the Coyotes.

"We are very excited about Krista and Katie joining our program," stated Lavin, whose team opens the season November 20 at home against Concordia (NE.) "Krista combines great basketball ability with an intense desire to compete. She is an all-around player who is also one of the best three-point shooters to come out of this state in a long time. Katie is a center who has just kept getting better. She has very good low post moves and a work ethic that will allow her to develop into a very good college center."

"Both of these young ladies are outstanding in the classroom and will represent the University of South Dakota in the highest manner," added Lavin.

Orsack earned first-team all-Greater Dakota Conference honors as a junior last season, along with first-team all-State and first-team Argus Leader Elite-Five laurels. This season she is averaging 11.0 points and 4.0 rebounds, while shooting 45 percent from the field and 84 percent from the free throw line. She is also producing 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game. Orsack owns a grade point average of 3.88.

Pulford is currently shooting 58 percent from the field. She is averaging 7.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocked shots per game. Pulford has a grade point average of 3.55

"Krista is very competitive and a real team leader," said Roosevelt head coach Fred Tibetts. "She is very vocal and is not afraid to step up and accomplish what needs to be done. Katie is the quiet type who leads by example. Both are class student-athletes and they will represent USD very well."

Sioux Falls Roosevelt, the two-time defending state champions, has a record of 19-0 this season and the team is carrying a 57-game winning streak. Roosevelt has won the conference championship five years in a row.
