SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Joel Nielsen, the Director of Athletics at The University of South Dakota, along with the Sioux Falls Sports Authority, are announcing that the Coyote women’s basketball team will face the University of Wisconsin Green Bay at the Sioux Falls Arena in Sioux Falls, S.D., on Nov. 15, 2009.
The game, to be played on a Sunday afternoon, will begin at 2 p.m. at the Sioux Falls Arena. The game will kick off the 2009-10 regular season for the Coyotes.
“This is a great way to open the season against an NCAA tournament opponent like Wisconsin Green Bay,” Nielsen said. “We’re grateful to the Sioux Falls Sports Authority for the chance to bring Coyote women’s basketball to Sioux Falls.”
Wisconsin Green Bay, which competes in the Horizon League, had an outstanding season in 2008-09, recording a 29-4 record and earning an NCAA tournament berth. The Phoenix lost to LSU, 69-59 in the opening round of the tournament in Baton Rouge, La. Green Bay, which went on a 21-game winning streak in 2008-09, has made 12 straight postseason appearances.
“USD has a strong alumni base in Sioux Falls, and we’re excited to be able to have a game for fans to attend in that growing market,” Nielsen said. “We expect our Coyote fans to support the game with their attendance.”
“The Sioux Falls Sports Authority is looking forward to bringing the Coyote women’s basketball team to Sioux Falls especially against such a quality Division 1 opponent as Wisconsin Green Bay,” said Mike Sullivan of the Sioux Falls Sports Authority. “We think this is the beginning of a great relationship between the University of South Dakota and the Sports Authority.”
Ticket information and details will be available at a later date. USD’s full 2009-10 schedule will be released in the weeks ahead.
