Terry Rolfe won an event and finished second in two others to help the USD men to the win over SDSU.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- For the second time this season, The University of South Dakota men’s swimming and diving team recorded a win over rival South Dakota State. The Coyotes accomplished the feat at the North Dakota triangular Saturday, defeating the Jackrabbits, 157-137.
The USD men lost to North Dakota, 152-123 in the other dual scored at the meet. The USD women lost to SDSU (168-132) and North Dakota (178-114), despite strong performances from Elizabeth Hoffman and Sallie Collins.
The USD men won five events, including a relay.
Sophomore Chris Hause (Overland Park, Kan.) won the 3-meter diving at 236.95 and also captured the win in the 1-meter diving with a score of 266.45, which was the third-best score in the Summit League this season.
Terry Rolfe (So., Newcastle, Wyo.) won the 200 IM with a time of 1:57.99 as his outstanding season continued. He was second in the 100 backstroke at 52.99, with teammate Gabe Sands (So., Greeley, Colo.) taking third at 55.21. Rolfe was also second in the 100 freestyle at 47.97, missing out on first place by just .10 seconds.
Thad Stoddard (So., Douglas, Wyo.) had an impressive day as well. He won the 200 freestyle at 1:42.94 and placed second in the 200 backstroke at 1:52.89. Sands was fourth at 2:01.19.
USD’s 200 freestyle relay was victorious with a time of 1:26.62. That consisted of Dane Van Arkel (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.), Ty Clikeman (Sr., Gillette, Wyo.), Bridger Miller (Jr., Upton, Wyo.) and Stoddard.
Nick Challgren (Fr., Cedar Falls, Iowa) was second in the 1,000 freestyle at 10:11.24. Clikeman was third in the 100 butterfly with a time of 54.35, while Van Arkel was third in the 50 freestyle at 21.85.
USD’s 200 medley relay, consisting of Stoddard, Miller, Rolfe and Van Arkel, was second at 1:35.42, less than a second out of first.
Miller was fourth in the 100 breaststroke at 1:01.09 with Ray Wieser (Jr., Vacaville, Calif.) fifth at 1:02.14. Wieser ended fourth in the 200 breaststroke at 2:17.36 with Miller fifth at 2:19.18.
Andy Calahan (Jr., Winterset, Iowa) was fourth in the 200 butterfly at 2:07.25, while John Dolan (Fr., Omaha, Neb.) was fifth at 5:04.35.
The USD women won four events on the day, led by Hoffman with two.
Hoffman’s stellar sophomore season continued, as the Eureka, S.D., native won the 200 freestyle at 1:53.81, topping her older sister, Alexandra (who swims for South Dakota State), by 2.45 seconds. Hoffman’s time was the second-fastest in the Summit League this season. Hoffman added a win in the 500 freestyle at 5:07.52, which was the third best time in the Summit this year. Hoffman was fourth in the 100 freestyle at 53.40.
Collins (Hastings, Minn.) won the 200 IM with a time of 2:13.45 as her successful junior season continued. She was third in the 200 butterfly at 2:15.07 and fifth in the 100 butterfly at 1:00.14.
Jessica Jackson (Fr., Waukesha, Wis.) also had an outstanding meet with the third-best score in both the 3-meter diving (208.75,) andin the 1-meter (230.75), with teammate Janine James (So., Cheyenne, Wyo.) fourth at 208.80.
Kaitlyn Jefferson (Fr., Westland, Mich.) was second in the 50 freestyle at 24.80. USD’s 200 freestyle relay, consisting of Jefferson, Jackie Kahnke (Fr., Shakopee, Minn.), Rita Buschbacher (Jr., Brighton, Mich.) and Danielle Bolin (Sr., Norfolk, Neb.), placed second at 1:42.37.
Shannon Moceri (So., South Lyon, Mich.) was fourth in the 100 breaststroke at 1:07.47 and also fourth in the 200 breaststroke at 2:29.92.
Emily Connelly (Sr., Lincoln, Neb.) was fifth in the 100 backstroke at 1:01.69 while also placing fifth in the 200 backstroke at 2:14.92.
The meet is USD’s final before the Summit League Championships, which will be held Feb. 18-21 in Indianapolis, Ind.
