The University of South Dakota softball team received another outstanding pitching performance from sophomore Janice Alswager and defeated previously unbeaten Truman State 5-2 at the 16-team University of Nebraska-Omaha Tournament on Saturday afternoon. An earlier game on Saturday with Minnesota-Duluth was cancelled due to weather conditions. With their fifth straight win, the Coyotes improved their overall record to 18-13. Truman State dropped to 20-1-1 on the season.
Alswager (Columbus, Neb.) allowed seven hits and two runs in the seven-inning complete game. She walked one hitter and struck out a batter.
Freshman first baseman Keri Bolte (Ralston, Neb.) had her second go-ahead RBI in three games with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth inning to put the Coyotes ahead 3-2. The Coyotes scored a run in the first inning and two runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings to grab the win. Alswager helped herself by collecting two hits in four at-bats and drove in one run. Julie MacRunnels (Sioux Falls, S.D.) had two hits and two runs while all-American catcher Tiffany Davis (Hawarden, Iowa) had two doubles in three at-bats plus an RBI. Bolte had a hit and an RBI while Melanie Robotham (Seward, Neb.) had two hits and scored a run.

The University of South Dakota softball team dropped a 10-2 decision to Central Missouri State (16-14) during play at the 16-team University of Nebraska-Omaha Tournament on Saturday afternoon. An earlier game on Saturday with Minnesota-Duluth was canceled due to weather conditions and USD defeated previously unbeaten Truman State 5-2 later in the day. The loss to CMSU, which won all three of its games on Saturday, dropped the Coyotes to 18-14 overall. The Coyotes were 1-1 on Saturday.
After five straight wins, the Coyotes suffered through defensive problems in the loss to CMSU. South Dakota committed six errors and only four of the 10 runs scored by CMSU were earned. Central Missouri scored five runs in the first and sixth innings. For the Coyotes, senior leftfielder Jessica Bills (Sioux Falls, S.D.) had a pair of doubles while Tiffany Davis (Hawarden, Iowa) had a RBI triple and a run scored. In five and two-thirds innings, Hill allowed 10 runs but only four earned runs on 11 hits.
