The University of South Dakota Coyotes women's softball team ran their record to 5-7 by winning a doubleheader against Briar Cliff, 8-5 and 9-1, at the DakotaDome on Wednesday evening in nonconference softball action. The doubleheader sweep by South Dakota stopped a seven-game losing streak. The Coyotes are now 2-0 at home.

In game one, the Coyotes rallied from a 5-2 deficit by scoring six unearned runs in the bottom of the third inning and recording an 8-5 victory. Sophomore Tiffany Hill (Sioux Falls, S.D.) started for the Coyotes but lasted just two-thirds of an inning, permitting four hits and three
runs. Sophomore Janice Alswager (Columbus, Neb.) stepped in and basically shut down the Chargers for the rest of the game. She went six-plus innings, allowing just one earned run and nine hits as she won her third game (3-2) of the season. Senior captain and shortstop Melanie Robotham (Seward, Neb.) had two hits, a run scored and two RBI to lead the South Dakota offensive attack. Briar Cliff committed five errors in the first game of the doubleheader. Lizette Synder had three hits and Stacia Evans had two hits to lead the offensive attack for Briar Cliff.

Sara Medved (Shoreview, Minn.) threw a two-hitter and Julie MacRunnels (Sioux Falls, S.D.) had three hits and two RBI as the Coyotes won game two by a 9-1 score. The Coyotes collected 10 hits in the win. All-American catcher Tiffany Davis (Hawarden, Iowa) had two hits, two runs scored and a RBI while freshman third baseman Kaja Martinson (Burnsville, Minn.) had a hit, run scored and two RBI. Medved threw two-hit ball over five innings, allowing just one run, walking two hitters and striking out a batter.
