The University of South Dakota and KELO Television Reach Agreement on Live Broadcast of Three Coyote Athletics Events

8/27/2003

VERMILLION, S.D. – The University of South Dakota announced today that it has reached an agreement with KELO-Television to broadcast live three athletics contests during the 2003-2004 season. All three broadcasts will feature long-time rivals The University of South Dakota and South Dakota State University.

The broadcasts will include the Coyotes’ home football game with South Dakota State University on Saturday, Oct. 25, at the DakotaDome. The SDSU game, which is also the Hall of Fame game, will begin at 2 p.m. During the broadcast, new inductees of the Coyote Sports Hall of Fame will be recognized. In addition to the football game, KELO will broadcast both the men’s and women’s basketball games with SDSU on Feb. 28, 2004, at the Dome. Game-time will be 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. The broadcasts will cover KELO’s entire coverage area, which includes all of South Dakota as well as parts of bordering states.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for USD athletics,” said interim Athletic Director Greg Redlin. “We are pleased that KELO-TV has joined with us in a partnership that will put Coyote athletics on a regional stage.”

“We are thrilled to join with USD to bring KELO-Land viewers these premier events. It is the first time in years viewers will be able to enjoy USD-SDSU action on television,” said Mark Antonitis, general manager of KELO-TV.

With South Dakota State's intentions to move to Division I, these athletic competitions may mark the end of a longtime rivalry.

"The two schools have enjoyed a long and highly competitive rivalry. We expect these games to be fun, exciting and full of suspense. We know our boosters, supporters and others are looking forward to these games,” said Redlin.
