LAWRENCE, Kan. -- Jim Walsh shot two rounds in the 70s to lead The University of South Dakota men’s golf team during the first day of the Kansas Invitational, which was held Monday at the Alvamar Golf Club in Lawrence, Kan.
Walsh (Sr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) shot rounds of 75 and 78 Monday to finish the opening 36 holes at 153, which is tied for 33rd overall in the field of 81 golfers. The Coyotes, as a team, finished at 643 and sit in 14th after the opening day.
Ben Heller (Fr., Aberdeen, S.D.) and Kyle Scanlon (Jr., Stillwater, Minn.) each are at 162 after two rounds. Heller shot rounds of 83 and 79, while Scanlon added rounds of 80 and 82. Ty Munneke (Fr., Champlin, Minn.) shot a 166 (81-85), while John Vining (So., Sioux Falls, S.D.) shot a 171 (85-86).
Gavin Fawbush (Jr., Madison, S.D.), competing as an individual, shot a 170 (86-84).
The final 18 holes are set for Tuesday.
