Men's Basketball Wins Fourth Straight, Defeats Rochester College 86-36

Coyotes (4-0) win 53rd consecutive home non-conference game.

VERMILLION, S.D. - The University of South Dakota received double figure scoring from four players and hit 15-of-21 three-point field goals as the Coyotes rolled to a 86-36 non-conference victory over Rochester College in the DakotaDome. Rochester College fell to 6-3 on the season.

USD (4-0) won their 30th consecutive non-conference game dating back to the 1996-97 season. In addition, the Coyotes won their 53rd consecutive home non-conference game and improved to 70-1 in non-conference home games during head coach Dave Boots' tenure. The only home loss was a 91-85 defeat in overtime against Gustavus Adolphus in the DakotaDome during the 1991-92 season.

Against Rochester, a small college school from Rochester, Mich., the Coyotes struggled offensively in the first half, hitting just 42 percent (14-of-33) from the field. However, the Coyotes made 10-of-13 three-point field goals as the Coyotes mounted a 42-21 halftime lead. A three-pointer by junior Jimmie Foster gave USD a 13-3 lead at the 15:15 mark of the first half. Rochester made a run at USD, closing to 16-10 on a three-point play by Mike Robinson at the 12:41 mark. Then, a three-point basket by Pete Males moved Rochester within 22-17 (8:53), but that was as close as the Warriors would get during the game. From that point, USD took off on a 19-4 run to end the half as Foster and junior Eric Hickenbottom each scored five points.

USD opened up a 51-23 lead at the 16:04 mark following a 9-2 run to open the second half. The Coyotes increased the margin to 66-34 on a lay-up by senior Jeremy Kudera off a feed from senior guard Nate Tibbetts with 9:48 to play in the game. USD closed the game with a 20-2 run.

Foster led the Coyotes with 15 points by making 6-of-12 shots including three three-pointers. He also had five assists and five rebounds. Senior forward Jason Barrow had 13 points and 12 rebounds while junior Paul Marshall knocked home four three-pointers for 12 points, and freshman Richard Ross had 11 points by making all four of his field goals, including a trio of three-pointers. Overall, USD made 15-of-21 three-point baskets and 29-of-59 (.490) field goals. The Coyotes were 13-of-18 (.720) from the free throw line. USD, who out-rebounded Rochester 48-24, also received nine points from junior Scott Hansen. Hickenbottom had eight points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals while Kudera and freshman forward Steve Anderson each scored seven points. Tibbetts had six assists.

Rochester was led in scoring by Mike Robinson with 17 points. The Warriors made just 12-of-50 (.240) field goals and were just 4-of-11 (.360) from the three-point line. They made 8-of-9 (.889) free throws.
