Tom Berg

Tom Berg is in his first season as a sports information coordinator at The University of South Dakota. Berg joins the Coyote staff after spending more than a decade in the sports journalism field.

Berg spent 10 years on the sports staff at the Marshall Independent in Marshall, Minn., including seven years as sports editor from 2000-07. During his time as sports editor, Berg won 10 writing awards from the Minnesota Associated Press Sports Writers Association (MAPSA), including five first-place honors. In addition, he supervised a sports department that received first-place honors from MAPSA in the general excellence category, and the Independent sports staff was a two-time winner of the Minnesota Newspaper Association’s Sports Reporting Award (2003 and 2005) under Berg’s guidance.

Berg received his bachelor’s degree in speech communication: radio and television from Southwest Minnesota State in 1999.

Berg and his wife Shaunna, a graduate student at The University of South Dakota, live in Vermillion.
